731 sets of fallen soldiers’ remains laid to rest at HCM City Martyrs’ Cemetery

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and other incumbent and former Party and State leaders attended a burial ceremony for 731 sets of fallen soldiers’ remains recovered from Le Thi Rieng Park, bringing them to their final resting place at Ho Chi Minh City Martyrs’ Cemetery on October 14.

The burial ceremony took place following memorial and commemorative rites earlier in the morning. The remains had been recovered during a search operation at Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City.

The rite marked the conclusion of the transfer of the remains from Le Thi Rieng Park to the municipal martyrs’ cemetery, where they were laid to rest with solemnity and respect.

Of the 731 sets of remains recovered at the site, 698 were found individually, while 33 were recovered from collective burial sites. The search operation began on June 23, 2026, with relevant forces drawing on historical records, witness accounts, field surveys and specialised equipment to locate the remains.

The recovery effort forms part of the nationwide 500-day campaign to search for, recover and identify martyrs’ remains. Work to identify the fallen soldiers continues, including the collection and analysis of DNA samples and efforts to match them with relatives.

The burial ceremony reflects the enduring gratitude of the Party, State, armed forces and people towards those who sacrificed their lives for national independence, freedom and reunification.
