According to the Vietnam News Agency, Phan Duc Thang, the bus driver, said the 19-seat minibus was travelling on Le Loi Street in the city of Tuy Hoa when he noted black smoke in the rear-view mirror rolling from the back of the bus.
He then saw flames shooting out from the front wheel wells, so he grabbed a fire extinguisher, ordered everyone out of the bus and went to where the flames were. Everyone was extremely lucky to get out safely.
It appears to have been a mechanical failure, said a fire official. It’s possible that the brake fluid ignited somehow, but we don’t know exactly what happened.
We got there shortly after it happened and it was a shocker to see what that minibus looked like. It was totally gone, said the official. The driver and passengers were very shaken up but thank goodness, they didn’t get hurt.
