Vietnam confirmed 49 more cases of A/H1N1 influenza on August 22, raising the total number of flu patients in the country to 1,896 with two deaths, according to the Health Ministry.

The new cases include 37 in the southern region, eight in the central region, two in the Central Highlands, and two in the northern region.

Of the total, 1,193 patients have been released from hospital after medical treatment. The remaining 701 are in quarantine for further treatment. All are in a stable condition.

Nguyen Huy Nga, Head of the ministry’s Department of Preventive Medicine and Environment, said the flu has spread over 30 provinces and cities nationwide, however, most patients showed light symptoms.
