The Health Ministry on October 17 confirmed one more death from the A/H1N1 influenza, raising the total fatalities from the disease in the country to 24 so far, of which five were pregnant women.
The latest fatal case was a 39-week pregnant woman, 29, from the central province of Binh Dinh. She was hospitalised on October 10 with symptoms of fever, cough and breathing difficulties and doctors had to conduct a Caesarean to save the baby.
However, the mother developed a respiratory distress and died on October 15 and her samples tested positive for the A/H1N1 virus.
The same day, the Health Ministry announced 19 more cases of A/H1N1 flu, increasing the total number of infections to 10,208 so far. It continued to urge people, especially pregnant women, to go to health clinics for check-ups and treatment in case of having any flu symptom.
