A training course was held in HCM City on June 15 by the Ministry of Public Security's police department on criminal verdicts executions and legal assistances so they can provide information on how to carry out the State President’s decision on amnesty in 2010.
Accordingly, about 25,000-30,000 prisoners will be considered for amnesty this year. Those prisoners currently serving their terms will also be likely to be released earlier. Decisions on parole will begin on August 25 instead of August 31 as in previous years.
Drug-related criminals who still have to serve three years in prison will also be considered for amnesty if they have behaved well. Previously, only prisoners with one year remaining were considered for release.
