2017’s devastating fires and explosions

VOV.VN - 2017 saw some devastating fires break out, destroying property and claiming a number of precious lives. Let’s look back at some of the major incidents of the year.

A fire destroyed a confectionery facility in Hanoi’s outlying district of Hoai Duc on the morning of July 29, killing eight and seriously injuring two others. The fire was ignited after welding sparks landed on a styrofoam ceiling.

Six people were killed and one seriously injured in a mortar shell explosion in the southern coastal province of Khanh Hoa on August 18. The accident occurred when a member of one family was attempting to defuse an old mortar shell, which they found on a nearby farmland.

Six Vietnamese workers were killed and two others injured when a gas tank exploded in the Bolikhamsai Province of Laos on July 28. The incident happened at Nam Nghiep 1, a 290-megawatt hydropower project by a consortium of Japanese, Thai, and Lao investors.

Six Vietnamese workers have been confirmed dead following a factory fire in Taiwan on the morning of December 14.

A fire broke out at a house in Tan Tao ward, Tan Binh district, Ho Chi Minh City, killing a family of four, including two children.

A family of four were found dead in their house in Hanoi's Bac Tu Liem District after it was destroyed by a fire on July 13.

All four family members were killed in a devastating fire in Phu Hoa ward, Thu Dau Mot City, Binh Duong province on February 26.

A massive fire broke out in Da Nang early in the morning of April 5, leaving three dead.

A fire occurred at Thu Bay market in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang, killing three members of a family early on November 2.

On February 21, a passenger bus suddenly exploded while driving along Highway 18 from Que Vo District, Bac Ninh province to Quang Ninh province, killing two people and injuring more than 10.
