The 12th annual National week on Occupational Safety and Prevention of Fires Explosions (OSH-PFE) will be held in the northern city of Thai Nguyen from March 14-21, says Vu Nhu Van, Deputy Director General of the Bureau for Safe Work.

The launch ceremony of the week, scheduled to start at 7a.m on March 14, will be attended by Vietnamese government officials, representatives from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Thai Nguyen city dignitaries.

During the week, there will be seminars on OSH-PFE conducted by several businesses and meetings to observe the occasion by the Ministry of Defense, the Farmers Association, and the Vietnam Electricity Group.

In 2009, there were over 6,000 occupational accidents, killing 550 people, up 7.09 percent in terms of total accidents, but down 4.01 percent in terms of fatalities, according to statistics from 63 provincial Departments of Labours-Invalids and Social Affairs.
