200 cakes made from rice and sticky rice set Vietnamese record
VOV.VN - Making a total of 200 cakes made from rice and sticky rice has been recognised as the largest of its kind in the nation by the Vietnam Records Organization (Vietkings).
Famous folk cakes such as Bánh Chưng (chung cake), Bánh Giầy (flat white cake), Bánh xèo (sizzling cake), Bánh Tét (cylinder glutinous rice cake), and Bánh da lợn (steamed layer cake) were showcased at the event.
Furthermore, cakes with new flavours including Bánh Tét Ngũ sắc (five-colour cylinder glutinous rice cake), Bánh Ram Tôm Thịt (small cakes with shrimp), and Bánh Cuốn Trứng (egg roll cake) were introduced to visitors.
According to Le Minh Dung, director of Hau Giang province’s tourism promotion centre, the event brought together a total of 40 chefs from Hau Giang province and neighbouring provinces and cities such as Can Tho, Kien Giang, Ben Tre, and Vinh Long.
The Vietkings announced on December 13 the event as being the largest of its kind in the country.
Producing a total of 200 cakes made from rice and sticky rice is part of the first International Rice Festival which is underway in Hau Giang province from December 11 to December 15.
The purpose of the festival is to promote the development of high-quality rice production, as well as its value chain towards organic rice production, thereby ensuring food security and climate change adaptation in the Mekong Delta region.
This marks the first time that the Vietnam-Hau Giang Rice Industry Festival, which was initiated back in 2009, has been upgraded into an international-level event. It features a total of 500 booths showcasing various kinds of rice, products made under the One Commune One Product (OCOP) programme, delicacies made from rice, and machinery and drones that support rice production.
Around 200 international delegates from 39 countries and territories worldwide participated in the festival.
