Conference examines breakthrough development in sci-tech, innovation
VOV.VN - The Secretariat of the Party Central Committee convened a national conference in Hanoi on January 13 to put forward initiatives aimed at fostering breakthrough development in science - technology, innovation, and national digital transformation.
The conference brings together leaders and former leaders of the Party and State, leading scientists, intellectuals, top domestic and international enterprises, as well as outstanding students and lecturers in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
It evaluates the implementation of the resolutions of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, and the Secretariat on science and technology development. It also sought to implement Resolution No. 57 dated December 22, 2024, of the Politburo on breakthrough development in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation. The overarching goal was to create a transformative shift in awareness and execution, contributing to the development of a prosperous and strong nation.
Resolution No. 57 emphasizes that the development of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation is a decisive factor in the development of nations. It is also a prerequisite and the best opportunity for Vietnam to grow into a prosperous and powerful nation in the new era.
According to the resolution, by 2030 Vietnam aims to achieve advanced levels in many key fields of science-technology, and innovation, join the leading group of upper-middle-income countries in these areas, and attain above-average global standards in technological and innovative capabilities for businesses.
It will be among the top 3 countries in Southeast Asia and the top 50 globally in digital competitiveness and e-Government development indices. It will rank among the top 3 Southeast Asian nations in artificial intelligence (AI) research and development, and serve as a hub for certain digital technology industries where Vietnam has a competitive edge. It will have at least 5 digital technology enterprises comparable to those in advanced countries.
With a vision for 2045, Vietnam aims to establish solid foundations in science-technology, innovation, and digital transformation to help it become a high-income, developed nation. It strives to ensure that the digital economy will generate at least 50% of GDP. It pledges to become one of the key industrial and digital technology hubs regionally and globally, rank among the top 30 countries worldwide for innovation and digital transformation, and keep pace with developed nations in the number of technology enterprises, with at least 10 digital technology enterprises on par with advanced nations.
Among other goals, it strives to attract at least 5 more leading global technology organizations or enterprises to establish headquarters, conduct research, and invest in production in the country.
The resolution outlines major solutions, putting a strong emphasis on enhancing awareness and renewing thinking about the role of science and technology; identifying strong resolve of the leadership to create new momentum and social consensus; and increasing g investment in science, technology, and digital transformation.
Experts view Resolution No. 57 and the conference as a ‘new breeze’, opening opportunities for Vietnam to develop rapidly and sustainably in the era of advanced technologies and digital transformation. This path enables Vietnam to rise and stand shoulder to shoulder with developed nations worldwide.
