Solid foundation for Vietnam’s entry into new development period

VOV.VN - From strategic infrastructure projects under implementation in the capital Hanoi to key projects nationwide, particularly GDP growth of 8.02% in 2025, Vietnam’s development picture in recent years has shown increasingly positive and clearly defined results.

In Hanoi, in the early months of implementing the Resolution of the 18th Congress of the municipal Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term, a number of major decisions have been translated into concrete works and projects of strategic significance.

Two key projects, the Red River Scenic Boulevard Axis and the Olympic Sports Urban Area, are expected to create a development turning point and open the prospect of a future “Red River miracle”.

With an area of about 11,000 hectares, a transport route nearly 80 kilometres long, along with green spaces, parks and modern urban redevelopment, the Red River Scenic Boulevard Axis is poised to become a new development centre of the capital upon completion in 2030.

Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Duy Ngoc said the two projects are of particular importance, contributing to the development of the capital, the Red River Delta region and the country as a whole.

He said they are directed toward creating a “Red River miracle”, serving the goal of GRDP growth of 11% or higher both in the current year and throughout the term, and shaping a new image of Hanoi as a capital of culture, identity and creativity, moving toward a green, smart and globally connected creative urban axis.

In addition to Hanoi, many localities across the country are simultaneously carrying out key infrastructure projects, ranging from transport and urban development to high-tech industrial zones and ecological infrastructure, creating spillover effects for growth.

A typical example is Long Thanh International Airport, one of the country’s most important national projects, which contributes to the overall achievements recorded after 40 years of renewal and holds particular importance in international commercial activities, serving as a factor supporting the country’s development in a new phase.

In a context of ongoing global fluctuations, Vietnam’s macroeconomic stability has continued to be maintained. During the 2021-2025 period, average GDP growth reached 6.3%, with growth in 2025 alone at 8.02%. The size of the economy expanded to US$514 billion, ranking 32nd worldwide, while GDP per capita exceeded US$5,000. Inflation has been kept under control, and major economic balances have been ensured.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thuong Lang, a senior lecturer at the Institute of Trade and International Economics under the National Economics University, said these results are of particular importance. He said they constitute a very solid foundation for a new development stage, in which priority should be given to green and digital transformation, along with decisive reductions in administrative procedures and greater authority for enterprises to create stronger economic outcomes.

The business sector has continued to show positive developments. In 2025, nearly 300,000 enterprises were newly established or resumed operations nationwide, while additional registered capital injected into the economy reached nearly VND 6.4 quadrillion. The FDI sector has continued to play an important role, with total realized capital in the 2021-2025 period exceeding US$158 billion, reflecting the attractiveness of Vietnam’s investment environment. At the same time, the requirement to enhance the economy’s self-reliance has become increasingly evident.

Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Dau Anh Tuan said a strong economy must be based on the domestic private enterprise sector, which he described as pillars closely and sustainably linked to the national economy.

Entering the 2026-2030 period, the target of average GDP growth of 10% per year or higher has been clearly identified. Strategic infrastructure projects such as the North–South high-speed railway, digital infrastructure, energy and logistics, together with orientations toward green and digital economic development, “Make in Vietnam” industry, as well as cultural industries and tourism, are expected to open up new development space for the country.

Economist Le Duy Binh said the spirit of autonomy and self-reliance must first be reflected in macroeconomic stability, in the capacity to manage monetary and fiscal policy, and in enhancing Vietnam’s position in international economic integration.

Alongside growth, strategic breakthroughs in institutions, infrastructure and human resources are being implemented in a coordinated manner. The 15th National Assembly has been described as historic, with the adoption of numerous laws and resolutions aimed at removing institutional bottlenecks, mobilising resources, shifting management thinking toward development facilitation, and ending the avoidance and transfer of responsibility.

With a solid foundation already established, Professor and Doctor of Science Phan Xuan Son, Director of the Institute for Eminent Figures Research and former senior lecturer at the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, said he remains confident in the nation’s future and in the Party’s leadership.

He said the Vietnamese nation has demonstrated resilience, creativity and the capacity to overcome difficulties across different periods, and noted that the 14th National Party Congress’s orientation toward building a Party grounded not only in established principles but also in civility and ethics would guide Vietnam toward a level of development comparable to that of developed nations.

With firm confidence in the Party’s leadership and a common national aspiration for progress, toward a prosperous and happy Vietnam standing alongside the world’s leading nations, Party members and people nationwide believe that, on the basis of achievements already attained and with a spirit of autonomy, self-reliance and confidence, together with determination for renewal and decisive action, the country will make effective use of opportunities, overcome challenges, and realise the goal of rapid and sustainable development.
