14th National Congress: Confidence and aspiration for development

VOV.VN - The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) holds pivotal significance in shaping the country’s development guideline and strategy. The policy decisions adopted at the Congress provide a solid foundation for Vietnam’s long-term and sustainable development.

Aspiration for national development

Speaking to the media at the 14th National Congress about the major messages and development aspirations conveyed to the entire Party, people and armed forces, General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission's Standing Board, and Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s affirmed that the 14th National Congress is a major and highly distinctive political event.

The Congress reviewed five years of implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Congress and 40 years of the Doi Moi (Renewal) process at a moment that opens a new period of development. As General Secretary To Lam stated, this is a historic juncture for Vietnam to enter a new era, an era of national development, pursuing the goals of peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, civilisation and happiness.

The message delivered by Party General Secretary To Lam at the opening session of the Congress reflects firm confidence and renewed aspiration, and represents a breakthrough in action.

The 14th National Party Congress has strengthened the confidence of officials, Party members and the people in the Party’s leadership, while strongly rekindling patriotism, the spirit of self-reliance and resilience, and the aspiration to build a prosperous and happy nation.

According to Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi, a delegate of the Party Organization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the 14th National Congress was held at a historically significant moment. After 40 years of Doi Moi, Vietnam has achieved major and comprehensive accomplishments, continuously improving living standards and people’s well-being, while enhancing the country’s credibility and standing in the international arena. The Congress documents provide in-depth discussion and careful consideration of major orientations and guiding principles to spur the country’s rapid and strong development in the period ahead.

In line with the spirit of the 14th National Party Congress, foreign affairs will continue to serve as a “key and regular task”, alongside national defence and security, in boosting national development in the new era. The Politburo has issued Resolution No. 59 on international integration.

Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi said Resolution No. 59 consolidates all previous guidelines, policies and orientations of the Party and the State on foreign affairs and international integration, while clearly demonstrating that Vietnam’s foreign policy has been implemented effectively in recent years through broader and deeper international cooperation.

“We regard internal strength as a decisive factor, while affirming that international cooperation is essential. This enables a harmonious combination of national strength and external strength. Resolution No. 59 was therefore issued in a timely and accurate manner, showing sound assessment and judgment by the Party and the State in the new context, and setting out appropriate orientations and decisions for the current period,” Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi said.

Creating impetus for Vietnam’s development

Key outcomes of the Congress include the further refinement of development perspectives, the establishment of clear strategic goals, the shaping of a new development model, placing people at the centre of development, reaffirming the decisive role of Party building and the political system, and closely linking socio-economic development with national defence, security and foreign affairs.

Having closely followed several Party Congresses, Tran Van An, head of Vi Hoang 1 residential group in Nam Dinh Ward, said the decisions adopted at the Congress would provide a solid foundation and long-term direction for national development and the future of the country for many years to come.

He expressed confidence that the 14th National Party Congress would continue to put forward stronger and more effective solutions for Party building and rectification, and for resolute efforts to prevent and combat corruption, wastefulness and negative practices, thereby consolidating public trust.

“Alongside economic development, I hope the Party and the State will continue to improve the social security system, place greater emphasis on investment in healthcare and education, and adopt preferential policies on health insurance and medical services, especially for the elderly and disadvantaged families, thus enabling all citizens to benefit from development achievements,” he said.

In the context of an unpredictable global environment, Nguyen Huu Duc, former Editor-in-Chief of Ap Bac Newspaper (formerly Tien Giang province, now Dong Thap province), said the most important task is to maintain resilience, independence, self-reliance and strategic confidence in the nation’s endogenous strength. He expressed confidence that the Party would continue to prioritise cultural development, social ethics and the shaping of the Vietnamese people in the new era.

“Economic growth is necessary, but without a cultural foundation, ethical standards and social trust, development will not be sustainable. I expect the 14th Congress term to open a new stage of development-stronger, more sustainable and more humane,” he said.

The 14th Congress outlines major orientations for rapid and sustainable national development. After the Congress, the implementation of action programmes to realise its resolutions is expected to generate strong breakthroughs, turning development aspirations into tangible reality and enabling the country to move forward more firmly and confidently, according to Nguyen Thi Bich Ly, Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilisation Commission of the Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee.

Strengthening global confidence in Vietnam

Wennys De Las Mercedes Diaz Ballag, special correspondent of Granma, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of Cuba, expressed confidence that the strategic goals set for 2030 and 2045 under the leadership of Party General Secretary To Lam would produce practical results and further consolidate Vietnam’s position as a modern nation on the international stage.

The unanimous election of the Party leader clearly demonstrates Vietnam’s political stability and strong internal unity. As Isac Patrício Nhabinde, Head of the Editorial and Digital Communication Department of Mozambique’s ruling FRELIMO Party, noted, the success of the 14th National Party Congress and the consolidation of senior leadership not only represents a source of pride for the Vietnamese people but also strengthens global confidence in Vietnam as a peaceful, dynamic and hospitable country that remains steadfast on its chosen path.

According to Juan Carlos Fernandes Juárez, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Vietnam, the 14th National Party Congress provides an opportunity for Vietnam to continue sustaining and promoting policies that have delivered success in recent years.

He described the CPV’s consistent and well-structured policy planning as a key factor that has helped the country advance domestically while strengthening its role at the regional and global levels.

“The decisions adopted at the Congress will provide momentum for Vietnam to continue its inspiring development journey and to make positive contributions to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world,” he said.

Expressing confidence that the success of the 14th National Party Congress would usher in a new era of development and generate strong momentum for Vietnam’s nation-building and development in the coming period, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam He Wei said the Congress Report emphasises strengthening Party building, enhancing national governance capacity, adhering to the three pillars of Vietnam’s socialist model, intensifying anti-corruption efforts, and improving institutions for rapid and sustainable development, thereby reinforcing the Party’s core leadership role.

Assessing Vietnam’s prospects in the new development era following the 14th National  Party Congress, Ambassador He Wei said that under the firm leadership of the Central Committee of the CPV, the next five years will mark a period of comprehensive development and major breakthroughs in national strength and international standing.

These breakthroughs can be summarised in three dimensions: advances in national governance capacity; advances in the country’s overall strength; and advances in international influence and standing. This will further affirm Vietnam’s image as an active member, a reliable partner and a responsible nation within the international community.
