Agronomist Vo Tong Xuan will be the first Vietnamese to receive the Dioscoro L. Umali Achievement Award for Agricultural Development by the Southeast Asia Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA).
The Philippines-based centre announced recently that the awards ceremony will be held at its headquarters on November 27, 2008 to mark its 42nd anniversary. The award winner will receive US$10,000 in cash.
SEARCA launched the award during its 41st anniversary on November 27, 2007 in honour of Dr Dioscoro L. Umali, the founder of the centre. The award recognises exemplary individuals who have advanced agricultural development in Southeast Asia.
