Addressing the signing ceremony, Mr Roessler said the event indicates that Vietnam, along with other members in the World Trade Organisation (WTO), trusts and recognises the services provided by the centre.

Ambassador Vu Dung, head of the Vietnamese mission at the United Nations, the WTO and other international organisations in Geneva, said that the centre’s services would help Vietnam to finalise its legal system and fulfill its commitments to the world’s largest trade body.

He added that services provided by the centre will also help Vietnam to protect its own interests during trade disputes at the WTO.

“Vietnam always tries to solve economic disputes without using the WTO’s dispute settlement mechanism,” emphasised the Ambassador.

The ACWL is an inter-Governmental organisation, which was founded in 2001 to provide free legal advisory services on WTO rules. The 74-member organisation aims to help developing and under-developed countries to protect their interests during trade disputes and provide training on WTO law for officials from these countries.
