The VOV Traffic channel, which specializes in traffic information and guidance, will extend its  coverage to the entire country in 2011, said an official of the radio programme run by Radio Voice of Vietnam on March 4.

Nguyen Trong Huan, Vice Director of the channel, said in the first phase, the programme will be broadcast along National Highway No 1 using 11 transmission stations.

The programme will also focus on flood information along the national route that runs from the northern province of Lang Son to the southernmost province of Ca Mau, he added.

VOV Traffic has so far prepared for installing nearly 2,000 cameras at critical locations along National Road No 1.

The project has a total investment of VND500 billion.

Pham Trung Tuyen, Head of the channel’s editorial department, said VOV Traffic reporters are present on roads from 6am to 11pm to update traffic information. “When we receive any hot news, we verify it and send our reporters to the scene.”

The Traffic channel, currently operating in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, has also launched several new programmes, including press reviews to serve the audience on their way to work.

It will start broadcasting a programme to provide tourists with useful information in April.
