Radio the Voice of Vietnam is trying to apply the latest advances of science and technology to its operations with the aim of becoming a strong, prestigious regional and global radio broadcaster.

A seminar to examine VOV’s roadmap for digitization took place in Hanoi on May 7 attended by VOV officials and their counterparts from Lao National Radio (LNR).

VOV Deputy Director General Doan Viet Trung described the seminar as providing an overview of the digitization of programme production at VOV and a venue for VOV and LNR to share their experiences in applying digital technologies.

To achieve its target of digitization, Mr Trung said, VOV needs coordination and professional and financial support from technologically advanced countries and international organizations, as well as from LNR.

For his part, the Vice Director General of LNR, Phosy Keomanivong, urged close cooperation and knowledge exchanges between VOV and LNR and proposed that the two organizations frequently exchange experts and staff to learn from each other.

Technicians from VOV’s Audio Archive Centre told seminar participants about VOV’s efforts to store audio and video recordings in digital form and transmit signals via the satellite VINASAT-1.

VOV has already undertaken a number of projects to digitize audio archives, upgrade its News Centre to meet modern standards of radio broadcasting, cover the East Sea with VOV’s broadcast signal, and air high-definition radio and TV programmes.

VOV’s studios are considered on a par with other regional and international broadcasters. They are equipped with facilities to transmit via satellite, microwave repeaters, and optical fibre. VOV’s transmitters are spread throughout the country and now reach 99 percent of the country’s population.
