Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) is the country’s leading media agency, said To Huy Rua, Politburo member and Secretary of the Party Central Committee, during a visit to VOV on February 23.

Mr. Rua said that VOV’s achievements reflect the creativity and determination of its officials and staff.

VOV has begun broadcasting traffic information in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, now transmits a signal via VINASAT-1 to improve the quality of its broadcast, increased VOVTV’s airtime to 16 hours a day and put its new National Broadcasting Centre at 58 Quan Su into operation.

Most significantly, VOV has successfully implemented the first phase of its project to begin broadcasting to the East Sea, to serve fishermen and other mariners. This was one of VOV’s biggest successes last year, that has been highly praised by the public, Mr. Rua said.

Mr. Rua predicted that 2010 will witness many important events, providing an opportunity for media agencies like VOV to promote Vietnam’s image to the world.

On behalf of VOV’s staff, General Director Vu Van Hien promised that VOV will do its utmost to deserve the Party and State’s support and public trust.
