The 66th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2) was celebrated in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on August 29.

Addressing the ceremony, Vietnamese ambassador to Sri Lanka, Ton Sinh Thanh, highlighted the historic significance of September 2, 1945 and reviewed Vietnam’s significant achievements in economics, poverty reduction and international integration since the country gained independence and became reunified.

Ambassador Thanh praised the positive development of Vietnam-Sri Lanka relations over the years while expressing the hope that the recent reopening of Vietnam’s representative office in Colombo will contribute to the traditional friendship between the two countries.

On the occasion, the Vietnamese embassy coordinated with the Ceylon Continental Hotel in Colombo to organise a Vietnamese food festival to introduce the country’s fascinating cuisine to people in Sri Lanka.

Features about Vietnam were also published in Sri Lankan newspapers, aiming to introduce Vietnam and its people as well as its socio-economic achievements. They also promoted the country’s culture and tourism potential and effective cooperation between Vietnam and Sri Lanka.
