Vietnam’s experience useful for Cuba: NA President de Quesada

Vietnam’s achievements and experiences are very useful for Cuba, says Ricardo Alarcón de Quesada, President of the Cuban National People's Power Assembly.

  • During his meeting with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Havana on April 11, the Cuban NA leader expressed his appreciation for the Vietnamese Party and people’s great support and assistance to the Cuban people. He said Mr Trong’s visit to Cuba is an event of paramount importance aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

    The Party chief briefed Mr de Quesada on Vietnam’s recent achievements in maintaining high economic growth as well as political and social stability, improving people’s living conditions, and raising its position in the international arena.

    Both leaders reaffirmed their wishes to deepen the friendship and cooperation between the two Parties, States, and legislative bodies both bilaterally and multilaterally, by supporting each other at international forums.

    Mr Trong conveyed NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung’s best regards and invitation to visit Vietnam to President de Quesada, who accepted it with pleasure.

    ** The same day, General Secretary Trong received Jose Miguel Meha, General Secretary of the United Left Movement of Dominica (MIU).

    Mr Meha expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s glorious past struggle for national independence and present cause of national construction and development. He said he will do his utmost to reinforce the traditional solidarity and friendship between the two Parties and peoples.

    The Party chief reaffirmed Vietnam’s solidarity with the MIU and Dominican people. He said he is confident that the MIU will achieve more success in its struggle for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress in the interest of Dominican people.

    He also said he is delighted at the effective implementation of the signed agreements between the two Parties.

    Both General Secretaries agreed on measures to improve the efficiency of cooperation in economics, trade, investment and other fields in the spirit of equality for mutual benefit.

    Vietnam and Dominica will further support and assist each other in their common cause of development for the benefit of peace, cooperation, and development in Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the world as a whole.

    Mr Trong presented the MIU with US$300,000 to build a school in Vietnam street in Santo Domingo.

    ** Another development on April 11 was the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the 2010-2015 period between the Vietnamese and Cuban finance ministries and another on the investment of a five-star hotel worth US$250 million in Havana between Vietnam’s Housing and Development Group and Cuba’s Cubanacan hotel group.
