Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, together with a high-level Vietnamese delegation, attended the military parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War at Tiananmen Square in Beijing on the morning of September 3, at the invitation of Party General Secretary and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping.

The event also saw the participation of many heads of state, government leaders, and high-level delegations from various countries around the world.

The victory over fascism also marked a new chapter in world political history, with the establishment of the United Nations (UN) and fundamental principles in international relations, principles of respect for equality and self-determination of nations, the peaceful settlement of disputes without the use of force, and respect for international law.

With such profound significance, even after 80 years and through countless upheavals and historical changes, the great war that defeated fascism continues to be honored by peace-loving people around the world, as it laid the solid foundation for building a better and more sustainable world as we know it today.

Vietnam is among the nations that endured protracted and arduous wars for national independence. Its people understand more than anyone the value of independence, freedom, and peace, while also sharing in the losses and honoring the immense sacrifices of peoples worldwide in the struggles against fascism, oppression, and exploitation.

President Luong Cuong’s attendance at the ceremony demonstrated Vietnam’s responsible voice and support for the global pursuit of peace, security, and development. It also reaffirmed the country’s foreign policy of independence and self-reliance, diversification and multilateralization, and proactive, active, comprehensive, extensive, and effective international integration, making active and responsible contributions to peace, cooperation, and development both regionally and globally.

In his welcome speech, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping expressed gratitude to the veterans who had engaged in the fighting, as well as to peace-loving international friends who supported the struggle against fascism.

The top Chinese leader stressed that history serves as a reminder that the destiny of humankind is a shared asset, and only by treating one another as equals, living in harmony, and offering mutual support can nations safeguard common security, eliminate the root causes of wars, and prevent the recurrence of historical tragedies.

Xi Jinping underlined that the Chinese people remain steadfast in standing on the side of historical justice and the advancement of human civilization, pursuing the path of peaceful development, and working together with peoples around the world to build a community with a shared destiny for humankind.

Pointing out that history carries the past while also illuminating the future, he said that in the current new era and on the new journey ahead, the Chinese people across the country are firmly following the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, comprehensively advancing the building of a powerful nation, realizing the great rejuvenation of the nation, and contributing to the noble cause of peace and development for humanity.

Earlier, President Luong Cuong attended a welcoming ceremony and joined a group photo session with heads of delegations participating in the event, chaired by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping.
