Vietnamese peacekeepers leave for South Sudan mission
VOV.VN - A send-off ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh City on March 24 by the Ministry of National Defence for 33 Vietnamese officers and soldiers who will take on a UN peace keeping mission at the level-2 field hospital No.3 in South Sudan.
All the officers and soldiers have been trained to deal with basic medical and surgical emergencies. Despite knowing that South Sudan is a harsh place they have expressed their delight and pride to take part in the mission.
This is the third time Vietnam has joined US peacekeeping missions globally.
Located in East Africa, South Sudan has a population of approximately 13 million who live in poverty and face ethnic conflicts and a prolonged civil war. The COVID-19 pandemic is also evolving in a complex manner in the country.
Established in March 2020 the level-2 field hospital No.3 is expected to welcome 70 officers and soldiers, including 64 official and six reserve members, who were all vaccinated against COVID-19.
The second group of staff of the hospital is scheduled to depart on April 21.
