Vietnamese, Panamanian FMs emphasize effectively realizing high-level commitments
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung had a working session with his Panamanian counterpart Javier Eduardo Martínez-Acha Vásquez in Hanoi on October 7, with both sides emphasizing the effective realization of high-level commitments made during the ongoing official visit of Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino Quintero from October 5 to 8.
Trung welcomed Panamanian Foreign Minister Martínez-Acha on his first visit to Hanoi accompanying President José Raúl Mulino on his official visit to Vietnam. Expressing pleasure at meeting Minister Martínez-Acha again following their encounter on the sidelines of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM 59) in Manila, the Philippines, in July 2026, Minister Le Hoai Trung congratulated the successful outcomes of President José Raúl Mulino's first visit to Vietnam.
He emphasized that the visit marks an important milestone and serves as an impetus for both countries to further develop and deepen bilateral relations in the new phase, building upon the foundation of 51 years of diplomatic relations (August 28, 1975-August 28, 2026).
For his part, Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Eduardo Martínez-Acha expressed his impression of Vietnam's achievements in economic development, foreign affairs, and international integration, affirming that the Government of Panama always attaches importance to Vietnam's standing in Southeast Asia and desires to strengthen bilateral ties.
FM Martínez-Acha highly appreciated the outcomes of the Panamanian President's visit, thanking the Vietnamese side for actively coordinating the arrangement and preparation for the visit.
On this occasion, the two sides reviewed areas of bilateral cooperation and agreed that the two foreign ministries will uphold their focal role in further concretizing the areas of cooperation agreed upon by the high-ranking leaders of both countries during the visit. They consented to continue promoting and maintaining high-level visits, meetings, and contacts on the sidelines of international conferences, as well as maintaining the frequency of existing cooperation mechanisms such as political consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the Joint Committee on Economic, Commercial and Investment Cooperation.
Both sides will step up exchange and cooperation in fields such as economics, investment, security, education, culture, and tourism; continue facilitating the effective operation of the diplomatic representative missions of the two countries and the Honorary Consulate of Vietnam in Panama; coordinate to open the Embassy of Vietnam in Panama at an early date; and encourage businesses of both countries to connect investment and trade, taking advantage of Panama's strengths in maritime transit (the Panama Canal), its regional aviation, logistics, and financial hub status, alongside Vietnam's potential in manufacturing, export, digital economy, and digital services.
The two diplomats agreed to coordinate with ministries and sectors of both countries to develop a joint action plan aimed at effectively implementing high-level commitments and signed agreements, while accelerating negotiations on necessary documents to complete the legal framework for long-term cooperation.
They concurred on continued close coordination and mutual support at international organizations and multilateral forums such as the United Nations, while offering mutual support in strengthening relations with regional institutions in East Asia and Latin America, thereby contributing to peace, cooperation, and development in the two regions and the world.
