Vietnamese NA remains active participant in APPF activities

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s attendance at the 29th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum demonstrates its legislature’s responsibilities in multilateral parliamentary diplomacy to promote regional peace, co-operation, development, and socio-economic recovery in the post pandemic period.

A high-ranking delegation of the National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue will attend the 29th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-29) via videoconference from December 13 to December 15.

Attendance at the event comes following an invitation made Park Byeong Seug, the Speaker of the NA of the Republic of Korea and host of the APPF-29.

NA Chairman Hue will attend and deliver speeches at two important plenary sessions on political-security and economic-trade issues.

According to Vu Hai Ha, chairman of the NA Committee for External Relations, the issues discussed at the forum are very practical for the purposes of peace, security, stability, and development throughout the region.

For issues regarding security, peace, and stability, the nation calls on countries to strengthen co-operation and solidarity to maintain an environment of peace, security, and regional cooperation, especially to ensure the safety and security of aviation and navigation in waters, including the East Sea.

The country is therefore ready to co-operate with partners to effectively prevent the COVID-19 pandemic through sharing vaccine resources, transferring technology, and implementing the agreement adopted at the recent UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in order to adapt effectively to climate change.

With regard to economic issues, the nation also suggests countries fine-tune the legal framework in the region to harmonise laws and boost general co-operation in digital transformation and digital economy. Indeed, this target aims to promote post-pandemic economic recovery toward building a circular economy that boasts plenty of green credentials, Ha said.

The speeches made by the top Vietnamese legislator will also provide recommendations for APPF member parliaments to step up co-operation, share experience, and realise the issues raised at the forum.

First joining the APPF back in January, 1995, the Vietnamese NA has always actively participated in the forum's activities, which has earned it plenty of international plaudits.

It is noteworthy that the NA hosted the APPF-13 in January, 2005 in Ha Long city of Quang Ninh province, with the occasion featuring the participation of by 22 member parliaments and observers.

Moreover, the APPF 26 was held from January 18 to 21, 2018, in Hanoi with the participation of 22 member parliamentary delegations, including Vietnam, and 365 international guests, including the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Secretary General of the IPU, and the former President of the IPU.

The success of the APPF-26 marks an important highlight in foreign affairs for the 14th legislature as it contributes to the overall success of Vietnamese diplomatic activities.

An important contribution of the Vietnamese NA at APPF 26 was a fresh vision for Asia-Pacific parliamentary partnership towards 2030.

The APPF, originally founded by former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone, is a forum for parliamentarians and parliaments of countries in the Asia-Pacific region. It has the primary goal of providing direct support to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) as a way of contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity throughout the region.

The APPF currently has 27 member parliaments, with the forum's principle and purpose to boost co-operation for the sake of peace, development, freedom, democracy, and prosperity.
