The Vietnamese embassy in Mexico held a banquet on February 11 to celebrate the coming Lunar New Year, which was attended by representatives of the Mexican Foreign Ministry, Mexican political parties, and the Mexico-Vietnam Friendship and Cooperation Society.

Addressing the event, Ambassador Pham Van Que briefed participants on Vietnam’s socio-economic situation last year and events planned for 2010, including celebrations of the 1,000th anniversary of Hanoi and the 35th anniversary of Vietnam-Mexico diplomatic ties.

The ambassador said the Communist Party of Vietnam has adopted many policies to help the country weather the global financial storm and achieve a growth rate of 5.3 percent while maintaining political stability.

He added that Vietnam is committed to bringing trade and economic cooperation with Mexico up to the level of their fine diplomatic relationship.

Felix Castellano, an official of the Mexico-Vietnam Friendship and Cooperation Society, praised Vietnam for its achievements and pledged to help strengthen mutual understanding and cooperative ties through exchanges.

In a cordial atmosphere, overseas Vietnamese and guests enjoyed traditional Vietnamese dishes and art shows presented by the embassy staff.

On February 10, the Vietnamese embassy in Nigeria held a reception for a number of foreign ambassadors and diplomats stationed in that country.
