A Vietnamese National Assembly delegation led by Dr. Ngo Duc Manh, deputy head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the National Assembly paid a working visit to Thailand on December 13-16.

During the four-day visit, Vietnam’s NA delegates paid a courtesy visit to Vice President of the Thai Parliament and worked with the Thai-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Committee, and the Thai Senate Foreign Affairs Committee.

At the meeting, the delegation discussed the ways to promote the role of the ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Association (AIPA) General Assembly in building a strong ASEAN community by 2015 and improve AIPA’s activities.

In addition, both sides also discussed ways to strengthen mutual understanding, share experiences and create a legal foundation and favourable political environment for inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Mr Manh said that Vietnam’s initiatives and proposals raised in meetings had attracted Thai legislators’ interest. Leaders agreed that AIPA actively contributed to strengthening the cooperation within the bloc, saying that the association will further promote its role, especially in improving the efficiency of its activities and ensuring the implementation of its resolutions.

In addition, both sides will also discuss issues on improving the efficiency of operations of the committees and the Secretariat.

Later, Vietnamese NA delegation will visit Myanmar and Singapore.
