Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium begins tenure, looks to deepen 50 years of ties
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador Belgium Nguyen Huong Tra presented her credentials to King Philippe in Brussels on October 7, formally beginning her working tenure in Belgium as both countries look to further expand their bilateral cooperation on the foundation of over 50 years of friendship.
The presentation ceremony took place solemnly according to the traditional protocol of the Belgian Royal Court. Following the ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Huong Tra conveyed greetings from Vietnamese leaders to King Philippe, affirming her resolve to contribute to further deepening the multifaceted friendship and cooperation between the two nations, based on achieved accomplishments and the special affection that the King and Queen of Belgium hold for Vietnam.
Vietnam and Belgium established diplomatic relations on March 22, 1973, just two months after the signing of the Paris Peace Accords. Over the past half-century, the two countries have maintained friendly relations and cooperation across various fields.
Bilateral relations gained new momentum following the state visit to Vietnam by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde in 2025. During the visit, the King emphasized that Vietnam-Belgium relations harmoniously connect the past, present, and future, nurtured by the understanding of preceding generations and long-standing cooperation between the two nations.
Economically, Belgium is currently Vietnam's sixth-largest trading partner within the European Union (EU). As the "capital" of the EU and home to the Port of Antwerp, one of Europe's major maritime gateways, Belgium plays an important role in connecting Vietnamese goods with the EU market, particularly within the framework of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
Ambassador Nguyen Huong Tra's tenure begins as bilateral relations have numerous new opportunities. Priority areas include trade, investment, logistics, agriculture, science and technology, green transition, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
The Vietnamese community in Belgium continues to hold the potential to act as a bridge, contributing to enhancing mutual understanding and bolstering cooperation between the two countries.
