A ceremony to present credentials to Crown Prince of Thailand Maha Vajiralongkorn was held in Bangkok, Thailand on February 19 with the participation of six ambassadors from Tunisia, Swaziland, the Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Djibouti and Vietnam.

On behalf of the Thai King, Mr Vajiralongkorn received credentials from Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Duy Hung.

Vietnam
and Thailand established diplomatic ties on August 6,1976 and have conducted a number of high-level exchange visits. The most recent visit was the two-day official friendship visit to Thailand by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in December, 2006.

During this visit,  the two sides signed the Vietnam-Thailand joint statement on security stance between the two countries and a joint statement on Vietnam-Thailand economic partnership.

Over the past 20 years, bilateral relations have significantly improved and strongly developed, especially after Vietnam officially joined the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Thailand is always listed in the group of top 10 largest investors in Vietnam and the two countries have set a target of raising two-way trade turnover to US$5 billion in the next few years.
