Vietnam’s ambassador to Sri Lanka Ton Sinh Thanh presented his credentials to the country’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa on April 26.

Speaking on the occasion, President Rajapaksa welcomed Vietnam’s reopening of its embassy in the capital city of Colombo, describing the move as a new important step of development in the long-term relationship between Vietnam and Sri Lanka.

He said that the Sri Lankan government and people will create favourable conditions for the embassy to operate in the country, in order to contribute to lifting relations between the two countries to a new level of comprehensive partnership in all fields.

On his part, Ambassador Thanh praised the Sri Lankan people’s anti-terrorism efforts in the past, as well as their remarkable socio-economic achievements in the current process of national reconstruction.

He promised to strengthen and boost the traditional friendship and effective cooperation between the two nations in the future.
