President Nguyen Minh Triet stated that Vietnam wants to enhance ties with Denmark and Canada at separate receptions for the new Danish and Canadian ambassadors to Vietnam in Hanoi on September 30.

When receiving Danish Ambassador John Nielsen, President Triet thanked Denmark for its commitment to providing ODA to Vietnam until 2015, saying that the assistance would effectively accelerate Vietnam’s poverty reduction work and economic development.

He expressed hope that Danish enterprises would invest more in Vietnam.

Ambassador Nielsen said that Denmark wants to shift the focus of bilateral relations onto trade, research, education and adaptation to climate change to help Vietnam build a green economy.

The Canadian Ambassador said she hoped that Canada and Vietnam would continue to encourage cooperation in politics, economy and culture.

She stated that Vietnam plays an active role in ASEAN, as well as in the relationship between ASEAN and Canada.
