Vietnam will not sacrifice environment for economic gains
VOV.VN - Vietnam will not exchange environmental protection for economic development, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung told Director of the UN Environment Programme Erik Solheim at a meeting on August 7 in Hanoi.

He called for UN assistance for Vietnam in climate change response, forest protection, and green house emissions reduction.
The Deputy PM suggested that the UN Environment dispatch experts to Vietnam, and share experience in environmental protection and related issues, while helping the country in personnel training.
He hailed the cooperation and support that the UN Environment has given to Vietnam over the past years, especially in technique, experience, policy-making, and personnel training, which has significantly contributed to Vietnam's environmental protection.
Mr Solheim congratulated Vietnam on socio-economic development, especially in agriculture and education,expressing hope that Vietnam will continue gaining success in the area of environment.
He said said the UN Environment Program will continue to accompany all nations, including Vietnam, in environmental protection.
