Vietnam welcomes US objective assessment in human trafficking report
VOV.VN - Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang shared Vietnam's stances on several key issues at a regular press briefing on October 15, highlighting evaluations of human trafficking prevention, clarifying the safety of the vessel NV Sunshine, and updating citizen protection efforts in Saudi Arabia.
Welcoming US objective assessment on human trafficking
Responding to a reporter's query regarding the US Department of State's 2026 Trafficking in Persons Report released on October 9, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated that Vietnam welcomes the US side's objective assessment of Vietnam's positive anti-trafficking results in recent times.
Hang affirmed that Vietnam has intensified anti-trafficking efforts, notably through issuing and implementing the national anti-trafficking program for the 2026-2030 period with a vision toward 2035.
The Law on Human Trafficking Prevention and Control 2024 has been carried out effectively and synchronously. Vietnamese competent agencies have stepped up investigations, prosecutions, and trials of human trafficking cases while identifying and supporting victims, alongside public communications to raise awareness, especially amid complex developments regarding human trafficking into online scam centers.
The country also recently issued an implementation plan for the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) under a Prime Ministerial decision on August 8, 2026, for the 2026-2035 period, aimed at tackling emerging migration challenges and preventing trafficking risks in international migration.
Building on this spirit, Vietnam will continue working closely with other nations, including the US, to strengthen exchanges and dialogue to comprehensively and positively evaluate Vietnam's efforts and achievements in human trafficking prevention, in line with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the US.
Rejecting fake news on oil tanker attack
Providing updates on the vessel NV Sunshine, the Spokesperson stated that reports alleging the ship's owner, the Japan-Vietnam Transport Joint Stock Company, officially announced on the morning of October 10 that the NV Sunshine was attacked are completely false and groundless.
Hang affirmed that the NV Sunshine has not been attacked and continues to operate safely and normally. The company maintains regular communication with the vessel to monitor operational realities.
Currently, the Vietnamese Embassy in Iran is coordinating with competent host country authorities to ensure maximum security and safety for the ship and the Vietnamese crew transiting the area.
Vietnamese citizens in Saudi Arabia remain safe
Regarding developments in the Middle East, following Vietnam's stance on October 13 against attacks on civil infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that the Vietnamese Embassy in Saudi Arabia has recorded no reports of Vietnamese citizens affected by the recent attacks.
The Embassy is maintaining close coordination with local authorities and Vietnamese community liaisons to monitor the situation, update information, and stand ready with citizen protection measures should any Vietnamese citizen be affected or endangered by the recent attacks.
On October 11, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an advisory urging Vietnamese citizens in the area to monitor and strictly comply with regulations and instructions from host country authorities and the Vietnamese Embassy, avoid traveling to dangerous areas at risk of attacks, and limit large gatherings.
Citizens planning trips to Saudi Arabia are advised to reconsider unless strictly necessary and maintain contact with Vietnamese representative missions for emergency assistance and citizen protection hotlines.
