Vietnam values ties with Maldives

(VOV) -Vietnam treasures its traditional friendship with south Asian countries including the Republic of Maldives, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung told his Maldivian counterpart Abdullah Maseek Mohamed at an April 1 meeting in Hanoi.

Hung highlighted his visit as a contribution to deepening mutual understanding between the two legislative bodies and peoples.

The top legislator welcomed the Maldives delegation’s idea of establishing a South Asian parliamentary union and hoped that the two countries would expand cooperation in marine-based economy and tourism. He also called for increased cooperation at regional and global forums.

Abdulla Maseek Mohamed affirmed his country's wish to strengthen  mutual understanding and tourism and cultural cooperation with Vietnam. 

He said he hoped a Hanoi declaration would be passed at the conclusion of this year’s IPU and urged the launch of practical programmes to celebrate 40 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations (1975-2015).

The Maldivian delegation is on a visit to Hanoi for the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-132).
