A Vietnamese diplomat has called upon Djibouti and Eritrea to exercise restraint, stricly implement the UN Security Council’s Resolution 1862 (2009) and engage in dialogue to defuse tension with a view to reaching a mutually acceptable settlement.
Vietnam’s Representative to the UN Security Council, Ambassador Le Luong Minh, made this demand at the council’s consultation regarding the Djibouti-Eritrea border dispute in New York on April 7.
Minh expressed his concern about the tension on the border between Djibouti and Eritrea, saying that the suspension of diplomatic relations between the two countries has hampered bilateral efforts to ease the tension.
He affirmed Vietnam’s support for the continued mediation efforts undertaken by the African Union, the Arab League, the Organisation of the Islamic Conference to find ways out of the dispute.
