A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in London on November 24 between Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Defence Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh and his British counterpart Astor.
Both sides decided to promote the exchange of high-level delegations and personnel for training in the field of national denfence and set up a joint working group on conducting research on defence strategy and military technique.
Earlier, Deputy Minister of Defence Vinh worked with Mr Astor on measures to enhance bilateral cooperation in national defence, and compared notes on security-related issues in the region and the world.
The British side showed keen interest in the Asia-Pacific situation, and appreciated Vietnam’s role in ensuring peace, stability and development in the region.
During his official visit to the UK from November 23-25, Mr Vinh visited a number of national defence establishments and military units, and talked to students at the British Royal Military Academy.
