The 5th meeting on the economy and trade between Vietnam and Turkey opened in Hanoi on February 22 in the context of the rapid growth in economic and commercial relations between the two countries.

At the meeting the two sides discussed a wide variety of cooperative topics including diplomacy, trade, industry, tourism and climate change, among others.

Turkey is the 17th largest economy in the world and the gateway to Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Turkey has developed rapidly to reach US$636 million in 2010 and Turkey is now one of Vietnam’s key commercial partners and the country’s biggest export market in Western Asia.

The two sides agreed to strengthen the exchange of information, delegations and experiences on socio-economic management and development, and encourage businesses to attend fairs and exhibitions in both countries, as well as other trade, investment and tourism activities.

On the occasion, the Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) held a forum on Vietnam-Turkey trade and investment which drew the participation of 40 Turkish businesses.
