Vietnam treasures cooperation with OIF
Vietnam treasures cooperation with the International Francophone Organisation (OIF) and its member countries in various fields.
Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan and Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son made the statement in separate meetings with Ousmane Paye, Special Advisor to the OIF Secretary General, in Hanoi on January 16.
Doan expressed her delight with the organisation’s role in promoting peace, crisis settlement, sustainable development, and cultural and environmental cooperation, which contributes to solutions to global issues.
She spoke highly of its activities in Vietnam and hopes the organisation will continue to intensify links with Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region.
Both sides discussed cooperation in priority domains, including French, economics, sustainable development, youth and culture.
While welcoming Paye, Son affirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of enhancing links with African countries, especially in economics. He proposed that the OIF continue to assist Vietnam popularise French and develop human resources.
Vietnam will assist OIF–ASEAN cooperation, said Son, adding that he would welcome a visit from the OIF Secretary General this year or early next year.
Reiterating a statement made at the 14th Francophone Summit in Congo in October, 2012, Paye said the OIF wishes to enhance cooperation with countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Vietnam, which will be added to the OIF’s cooperative strategy framework.
He also discussed Vietnam’s recommendation concerning the establishment of a French language research and training institute.
