The meeting was announced by Lieutenant General Nguyen Tuan Dung, deputy head of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army, at a press briefing in Hanoi on March 12.
The meeting will focus on effective cooperation among military forces of ASEAN member countries in dealing with non-traditional security threats. It is one of the two most important conferences among 13 events to be held by the Vietnam Ministry of National Defence in 2010 – a year when Vietnam holds the chair of ASEAN and will attend conferences of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF)
Top leaders of military forces from 10 ASEAN member countries will gather to approve an ACDFIM-7 Resolution and a two-year Action Plan for 2010-2011.
Vietnam will use this opportunity to send a message about the readiness of its military forces to help build a strong ASEAN community.
