Vietnam, Thailand to boost military ties

Vietnam and Thailand have agreed to strengthen military cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the “National Defence Agreement of Vietnam and Thailand’s Ministries of National Defence” signed in September 2012.

The agreement was reached during the working visit of a Vietnamese military delegation, led by Minister of National Defence, General Phung Quang Thanh to Thailand from March 11–14, at the invitation of his Thai counterpart SukumpolSuwanatat.

General Thanh insisted that the two countries should cooperate bilaterally and multilaterally in the process of building an ASEAN community by 2015.

The current visit, he said, aims to evaluate the two countries’ national defence cooperation based on the traditional friendship, mutual understanding and trust between the two countries and their military forces for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
