Vietnam and Thailand need to strengthen economic cooperation, said Vietnamese and Thai officials at a meeting in Bangkok on May 11.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Ngo Duc Thang and Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya discussed measures to boost bilateral economic cooperation, including resuming some air routes, simplifying procedures at land border gates and on roads in the East-West corridor, as well as expanding cooperation in the Mekong sub-region.

They also discussed measures to increase the levels of investment, especially by small and medium-sized enterprises.

They mentioned the expansion of cooperation in labour, rice and rubber exports and preparations for the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Earlier, Ambassador Thang paid a courtesy visit to General Prem Tinsulamonda, President of the Privy Council of Thailand.
