Vietnam supports UNESCO initiatives

(VOV) - Vietnam welcomes UNESCO’s special priority given to its “Education for All” movement and is eager to back its initiatives and efforts to speed up the movement.

Speaking at the ongoing 190th session of the UNESCO Executive Board in Paris from October 8-10, Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam always considers education its top priority. He said the country allocates as much as 20 percent of its state budget for the education sector every year.

Regarding culture and information, Son said UNESCO’s titles such as the World Cultural Heritage, World Natural Heritage, and Intangible Cultural Heritage have positively impacted on socio-economic development in localities and helped raise public awareness of conserving the heritage values.

He spoke highly of UNESCO’s programs and initiatives such as the “Man and the Biosphere”, “Memory of the World”, and the Global Geo-Parks Network.

The diplomat said in the current global context, Vietnam will join hands with UNESCO to share its burden.

Vietnam has launched various UNESCO-initiated initiatives to help link nations across the globe and boost sustainable growth in all countries, Son added.

While in France, Deputy FM Son met with representatives of the Vietnamese community.
