At a UN Security Council meeting on the Darfur mediation process in New York on March 26, Vietnamese Representative to the UN, Ambassador Le Luong Minh, mentioned the initial encouraging outcome of those mediation efforts, including the conclusion of the Doha Agreement between the Sudanese Government and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) last February.

Mr Minh praised the March 15 decision by five minor rebel factions in Darfur to join the Doha peace agreement and called on all other rebel groups to follow suit, thus promoting the momentum of cooperation and national reconciliation to resume and reinvigorate the Darfur peace and political process.
