Assistant to the Sudanese President and deputy chairman of the National Congress Party (NCP), Nafie Ali Nafie Ahmed, paid a visit to Vietnam from March 25-28. He was accompanied by the Minister of Aquaculture and Agro-Forestry and some senior officials of Sudan.

During his visit to Vietnam, Mr Nafie held talks with Director of the State President’s Office Nguyen Van Chien and met with State President Nguyen Minh Triet and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung. He also worked with Director of the Commission for External Relations of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Van Son, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat, Minister of Fisheries Ta Quang Ngoc, Minister of Industry Hoang Trung Hai and the leaders of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group.


The Sudanese delegation paid tribute to the late President Ho Chi Minh at his Mausoleum and visited a number of economic and cultural establishments in Hanoi and some other localities.


On these occasions, the two sides exchanged information about the situation in each country and discussed measures to boost bilateral cooperation in the fields of economics, trade, industry, oil and gas, and aquaculture.


The Sudanese guest highly valued Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements in the Doi Moi (Renewal) process, as well as its external policies. He congratulated Vietnam’s successful hosting of the 14th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Hanoi in November 2006 and its entry to the World Trade Organization (WTO).


The Sudanese guest further said he was delighted at the good results of his visit. The signing of some agreements with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Fisheries and the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, would give a boost to bilateral cooperation in the coming time, he said.


The Vietnamese side affirmed Vietnam’s wish to strengthen traditional relationship and economic cooperation in a more effective manner.


Both sides believed that the friendship and co-operation between Vietnam and Sudan will enter a new period of development.
