Luong Thanh Nghi, spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, made the statement in response to reporters’ queries on Vietnam’s reaction to the Human Rights Act, which has been passed by the US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Over the years, Vietnam has gained great achievements in securing human rights in civil, political, economic, cultural and social affairs, which have been recognised by the international community, said Nghi.
Any differences in human rights issues should be discussed frankly in the spirit of constructiveness and mutual respect to promote mutual understanding and help strengthen relations among nations, said the spokesperson.
He also noted that Vietnam has frequently held dialogue on the human rights issues with the US.
