Vietnam, Singapore accelerate implementation of comprehensive strategic partnership
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Singapore agreed to step up the implementation of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during a phone call between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong on December 18, with a focus on economic cooperation, green energy and ASEAN coordination.
The two PMs also discussed bilateral relations as well as several emerging regional and international issues.
The Vietnamese Government leader said he is elated to speak with PM Lawrence Wong shortly after their meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in November 2025. He highly valued both PMs’ frequent contacts and phone calls, which have enabled timely consultations and coordination in responding effectively to challenges, seizing opportunities to sustain development momentum, and making practical contributions to ASEAN unity.
The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the positive progress in Vietnam-Singapore relations since their elevation to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and agreed to decisively and effectively implement the 2025-2030 Action Programme. They also consented to study the establishment of new cooperation mechanisms, including a Strategic Dialogue between the two ruling parties.
They further agreed to continue prioritizing the upgrading of the Vietnam–Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network to a second generation that is greener, smarter, more inclusive and comprehensive. They set the goal of reaching 30 VSIPs before 2030 and expanding this successful model to other countries in the region.
PM Chinh hailed ongoing joint feasibility studies on offshore wind power exports from Vietnam to Singapore, and proposed cooperation in the development of small modular nuclear power, as well as the early rollout of concrete cooperation projects in carbon credits and food security. He also expressed his hope that Singapore would participate in Vietnam’s financial centers in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, continue supporting Vietnam in developing high-quality human resources, and help make Vietnam-Singapore ties a leading model of solidarity, cooperation and dialogue in the region.
Agreeing with PM Chinh’s proposals, Lawrence Wong stressed that amid increasingly complex regional developments, Singapore hopes to work with Vietnam to realize the newly established Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a substantive manner, turning it into a “beacon” within ASEAN for win-win, mutually beneficial cooperation.
Exchanging views on regional and international issues of shared concern, the two Government leaders expressed deep concern over recent tensions between Cambodia and Thailand. They called on all parties to exercise restraint, refrain from the use of force, engage in dialogue, and resolve differences through peaceful means. They concurred to closely coordinate with other ASEAN member states to reinforce unity, uphold ASEAN centrality, and make effective use of ASEAN mechanisms to promote dialogue and contribute to peace, stability and cooperation in the region.
The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination and effective cooperation when Vietnam serves as APEC host and Singapore holds the ASEAN chairmanship in 2027.
