“We were saddened by the shooting tragedy on April 16, 2007, which claimed the lives of more than 30 people, most of whom were students of the Virginia Tech University. We would like to send our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the American people,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Dung.

At a regular press briefing of the Foreign Ministry on April 19, FM spokesperson Le Dung announced Vietnam’s external relations activities in the coming time and responded to a number of questions raised by foreign reporters.


Regarding Vietnam’s reactions to the recent massacre at the Virginia Tech University,
Mr Dung said, “We were saddened by the shooting tragedy on April 16, 2007, which claimed the lives of more than 30 people, most of whom were students of the Virginia Tech University. We would like to send our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the American people.”


On April 18, 2007, President Nguyen Minh Triet sent a message of condolences to President George W. Bush.


On the assassination of the Nagasaki Mayor on April 17 2007, Mr Dung said, “We were shocked by the assassination of Nagasaki Mayor Itcho Ito on April 17, 2007 and strongly condemn this brutal act. We would like to convey our most profound condolences to the family of Mayor Itchi Ito and the Japanese people.”
