Vietnam seeks more assistance from ADB
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has affirmed that Vietnam wants to develop relations with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in many areas.
During his meeting with ADB Vice President Stephen P Goff in Hanoi on February 9, PM Dung said Vietnam appreciates the ADB’s effective cooperation and assistance in poverty reduction, human resources development training, construction infrastructure and policy making.
He said the ADB projects in Vietnam valued at more than US$10.8 billion in total paid off well, contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.
Mr Dung said he hopes the ADB will enhance investment in the fields of infrastructure construction, health care and education in Vietnam and assist the country to push through financial reform and improve the environment in response to climate change.
For his part, Mr Groff praised Vietnam’s achievements in curbing inflation, stabilizing the macroeconomy and ensuring social security.
Mr Groff said the ADB attaches importance to boosting cooperation with Vietnam and will work more closely with relevant agencies and sectors to implement the signed agreements and cooperative programmes.
At the meeting with ADB Vice President Groff the same day, Minister of Finance Vuong Dinh Hue spoke highly of the ADB’s credit assistance worth US$130 million for restructuring State-owned enterprises in Vietnam.
Mr Groff said Vietnam’s effective management of projects over the years will help accelerate the disbursement of ADB funding for Vietnam.
