Vietnam attaches importance to developing friendship and cooperation with Brazil, affirmed National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong.
The NA leader made the affirmation while receiving Damiao Feliciano, Chairman of the Committee for External Relations and National Defence of the House of Representatives of Brazil, in Hanoi on Nov. 19.
Chairman Trong spoke highly of Brazil’s potential for development and its role in the region and the world. He hailed Brazil for crossing out Vietnam from the list for investigation into footwear dumping and also for allowing 60 Vietnamese companies to export seafood to the country.
He said, despite the recent fine development in bilateral ties, the two countries need to further boost exchanges and multifaceted cooperation, particularly between the two parliaments, for the benefit of each side.
He asked Damiao Feliciano to convey his invitation to visit Vietnam to the Speaker of the Brazilian House of Representatives.
For his part, the Brazilian guest expressed his hope that with the joint effort and determination of both sides, relations between the two countries and parliaments would be constantly developed.
He expressed his pleasure at the economic development of the two countries despite the impact of the global financial crisis and economic slowdown. He expressed his wish that the two countries would accelerate economic and trade exchanges to bring the current bilateral trade turnover of US$500 million to US$1 billion in the near future.
