Vietnam and Nicaragua have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the form of direct partnership.

The agreement was reached by Foreign Minister (FM) Pham Binh Minh and his Nicaraguan counterpart, Samuel Santos Lopez, at a meeting in Hanoi on July 4 before the opening of the Vietnam-Latin America Trade and Investment Forum on July 5.

The two ministers discussed measures to foster multi-faceted cooperation by increasing the exchange of high-level delegations and helping businesses from both countries access each other’s market.

They compared notes on regional and international issues of common concern and pledged to closely coordinate at international organizations and multilateral forums such as the United Nations (UN), the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the Forum on East Asia-Latin American Cooperation (FEALAC).

FM Minh emphasized that Vietnam always attaches great importance to strengthening its friendship and cooperation with Nicaragua.

He highlighted Nicaragua’s socio-economic achievements in recent years and its constant efforts to improve people’s living conditions.

Minister Samuel Santos Lopez expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s current renewal process and global economic integration.

He spoke highly of Vietnam’s growing prestige at regional and international forums and its active preparation for the Vietnam-Latin America Trade and Investment Forum despite the impact of the global economic crisis.
