The first strategic dialogue between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) on diplomacy, security and national defence at the deputy ministerial-level was held in Hanoi on April 26.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and the Korean delegation was headed by the first Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Park Suk Hwan.

The two sides discussed a wide range of strategic issues related to bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of mutual concern. They expressed their delight at recent developments in the relationship between the two countries after their strategic cooperative partnership was established in 2009, adding that the strategic dialogue is a step forward in bilateral relations and contributes to promoting their political trust.

They agreed to boost cooperation in all fields, especially in economics, trade, investment, cooperation and development while working together to celebrate the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 2012.

They also agreed to coordinate their actions at international and regional forums, particularly the UN, APEC, ARF, ASEAN+ and EAS.

The RoK side presented its views and stance on issues related to the Korean peninsular and inter-Korean relations. The Vietnamese side reiterated its consistent policy of supporting peace, stability and non-nuclearisation of the Korean peninsular and supported the concerned parties in their efforts to settle disputes through dialogue for the sake of peace, stability and cooperation in the region.

Vice Minister Hwan also met with Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung, Minister and Chairman of the Government Office, Nguyen Xuan Phuc and other government officials.
