A delegation from the Republic of Korea (RoK) National Assembly’s Defence Committee led by its chairman Won Yoo-chul, has paid a working visit to Vietnam to foster cooperative relations between Vietnam and the RoK.

The delegation was received by Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung and National Assembly Vice Chairman, Huynh Ngoc Son, on March 15.

Deputy PM Hung expressed his delight at seeing the development of Vietnam-RoK relations, especially in the economic sector, with the two countries striving to raise bilateral trade to US$20 billion.

The Deputy PM also described the RoK, as one of Vietnam’s leading investors. Chairman Won Yoo-chul agreed that the two countries need to boost cooperation at all levels in line with the strategic partnership agreement reached between the two leaders.

He also said that relevant RoK agencies will create more favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community of over 100,000 people in the country.

At a separate meeting with the RoK guest, NA Vice Chairman Huynh Ngoc Son highly valued the cooperation between the two legislative bodies and expressed thanks to the RoK NA for supporting Vietnam at inter-parliamentary forums in the region and the world.

He also affirmed that the Vietnam government and people attached great importance to improving friendly and multifaceted cooperative relations with the RoK.

For his part, Won Yoo-chul highlighted Vietnam’s great achievements in economic development and social welfare.

He expressed his belief that the close cooperation between the RoK and Vietnam will not only foster the development of the two countries but also bring peace and common prosperity to the region.

The RoK appreciated Vietnam’s role in Southeast Asia, and expects Vietnam to support the RoK in strengthening its cooperative relations with member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), he said.

On this occasion, the two parties signed a cooperative agreement to boost exchange and cooperative activities between agencies of the two assemblies.
