Vietnam responds to activities at Hoai An Reef in Truong Sa archipelago
VOV.VN - Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Pham Thu Hang said sending personnel to features belonging to Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago without Vietnam’s permission violates the country’s sovereignty under international law and is inconsistent with the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).
Speaking at the Foreign Ministry’s regular press briefing on May 14, Hang responded to questions regarding activities by China and the Philippines at Hoai An Reef in Vietnam’s Truong Sa archipelago.
“Sending personnel by relevant parties to features belonging to the Truong Sa archipelago without Vietnam’s permission violates Vietnam’s sovereignty under international law and runs counter to the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), as well as efforts by countries to negotiate a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC),” she said.
The spokesperson stressed that Vietnam requests relevant parties to respect Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Truong Sa archipelago, refrain from actions that complicate the situation, comply with international law and fully implement the DOC, and contribute to maintaining peace and stability in the East Sea.
